The 1960s never happened: Make war, not love. The boys and girls who populate the Maze Runner series would much rather fight than fornicate. Perhaps that last bit is not the official line, but it's true. Like Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the Twilight series, the writer of these books (James Dashner​) is Mormon, so there is a serious message here about the dangers of growing up, the need to take responsibility and work together, the fact that things are not always what they seem and that guns are OK but sex is not.
